THE FIRST FAMILIES OF ORANGEBURGH, SOUTH CAROLINA

The Executive Board of the Orangeburgh German-Swiss Genealogical Society formed the "First Families Research Committee" to coordinate research on the early settlers in the Orangeburgh area and to publish reviewed, first generation biographies in the OGSGS Newsletter and on the OGSGS Website. The committee is actively soliciting first generation biographies of immigrant settlers in Orangeburgh District for the time period 1735 to 1773.

In order to improve and streamline our work, the committee has made a change in the way we accept family biographies. We no longer require the information to be in the published format. We will now accept your raw information and a committee member will put the information into the preferred format for publishing. You will still be required to cite your sources. Any unsourced information included in your work will be checked and will be used only if the committee can locate a source.

Some things to remember when researching your family are: (1) the first generation family must have arrived in Orangeburgh District during the colonial period between the years 1735 and 1773. (2) The location from which they came (if known) and where they settled. (3) The grandparents, parents and children of the family (4) Any interesting facts known about them.

A surname list of first families, documentation and source references is on file with the OGSGS First Families Research Committee. Biographies will be researched and posted on the Website as they become available. Questions, comments and biography data should be directed to Lynn S. Teague, 3728 Wilmot Ave., Columbia, SC 29205.
