Migration of Christopher TATUM (V) and Catherine GRESSETT1. Christopher TATUM (V), born 5 Feb 1795 in Orangeburgh, South Carolina; died 14 Dec 1870 in Jasper County, Mississippi, son of Christopher TATUM (IV). He married abt 1818 Catherine GRESSETT, born 1797 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died aft 1880 in Jasper County, Mississippi, daughter of William GRESSETT and Catherine GAVIN. Notes for Christopher TATUM (V): Christopher with his brother Joshua went to Autauga - Montgomery Cos., AL about 1817. They then migrated onward to Mississippi about 1830 and settled in neighboring Cos. of Jasper and Newton, MS. Both mentioned in David Gavin diary and there is a C. Tatum listed in the Autauga County, AL census. MaryAnnNichols msg 3Oct98. In the Autauga County, AL records, page 347 appears a paper from Orangeburgh, SC regarding Christopher Tatum. "This is to certify that I give and bequeath unto sister Ann Liviston and the heirs of her body the within named negro girl Hannah together with all the memaining part of the within named property. Her then and thur increase here the said Ann Livisgston and her heirs forever at my decease and not before then her and her children to be equal prorietors share and share alike and the longest liver of them to have all the deceased part of the property and the increase. Given under my hand this ninth day of November one thousand seven hundred and ninety four. Witnesses present: Mathew Johnson, Rob't Livingston, Christopher Tatum. N. B. the land I give to WIlliam and Robert Tatum Livistons share and share alike and equal share of the negroe and other property and increase. "Orangeburg District: Personally appeared Robert Livingston and made oath on the Holy Evangel of almighty God that he was present and did see the above named Christopher Tatum sign and date the above instrument or writing as his will and... to answer the ends and purposes therin mentioned and was then in his proper senses and knowledge and that he did see Mathew Johnston make mark as above as a witness therunto together with him the deponent Ro't Livingston. Robert Livingston of St Matthews Parrish and District aforesaid Greeting: Know ye that I the said Robert Livingston for and... of the natural love and affection which I have and do bear to my beloved wife Ann Livingston, and for divers other good causes and.... me here unto moving. Have Given and granted and be the presents do give and grant unto my beloved wife Ann Livingston two affrican negroes, one a boy about fifteen years of age Peter the other a girl about fourteen years of age named Fanny them and their increase to her the said Ann Livingston during her natural life time and after her decease the above named negroes (Peter and Fanny) with their increases) to be equally divided amonst they their surviving heirs born of her body share and share alike in whose hand custody whatsoever they be within this state above named or in any of the United States or else where to have hold and enjoy the above named negroes aforesaid with their increase unto the said Ann Livingston and her heirs as above stated and assigns for ever to their only proper use and behoof for ever.
