Migration of William Beverly CLAYTON and Mary GAVIN

1. William Beverly CLAYTON, born 6 Oct 1777 in Orangeburgh, South Carolina; died 9 Mar 1841 in Noxubee, Green Co., Mississippi, son of William CLAYTON and Clayton [---]. He married on 20 Apr 1797 Mary GAVIN, born 5 Sep 1777 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died abt 1820 in Green Co., Mississippi, daughter of Charles GAVIN and Bathiah BYRD.

Notes for William Beverly CLAYTON: When William and Mary Clayton and family arrived in Mississippi, they settled in Perry County about 2 miles up the river from the town of McLain. The family of John Lewis Dantzler which had arrived in Perry County, Mississippi in 1812, settled on the east side of the Leaf River. William Clayton's family settled on the west side of the river opposite John L. Dantzlier's land. William Clayton bought this land in Dec. 1818.

Notes for Mary GAVIN: Migrated from Orangeburg, South Carolina to Mississippi before 1817. Drowned in the Leaf River near McLean, Mississippi.

Children of William Beverly CLAYTON and Mary GAVIN were as follows:

a. Isham Henry CLAYTON, born 26 Oct 1801 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 13 Nov 1848 in Mobile, Alabama. He married Mary Elizabeth BOLTON, born abt 1800; died 7 Nov 1881 in Jasper County, Mississippi. When Isham and Mary came from SC they settled in Greene County, Miss. until what is now Jasper County was purchased from the Indians, they then removed to Jasper County. He died of yellow fever in Mobile, Ala in 1847.

b. John W. CLAYTON, born 13 Dec 1803 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 1872. He married Mary Ann BERRY, died in Lauderdale County, Mississippi.

c. Catherine B. CLAYTON, born 7 Feb 1806 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina.

d. Charles Gavin CLAYTON, born 23 Dec 1808 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 1 Sep 1857 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. He married on 23 Mar 1830 in Perry County, Mississippi Avaline DANTZLER, born 25 Mar 1813 in Perry County, Mississippi; died 5 Apr 1889 in Perry County, Mississippi, daughter of John Lewis DANTZLER and Elizabeth HORGER.

e. William Alexander CLAYTON, born 6 Feb 1811 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 5 Jun 1867. He married (1) Sarah LOPER, died in Lauderdale County, Mississippi; (2) Nancy LOPER , died in Lauderdale County, Mississippi.

f. Elizabeth McA. CLAYTON, born 9 Jul 1813 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina. She married abt 1842 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi Thomas LEWIS, born abt 1800 in North Carolina.

g. Bertha Evaline CLAYTON, born 9 Jul 1813 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 21 May 1875. She married Aaron A. BOLTON.

h. Henry R.G. CLAYTON, born 20 Jan 1817 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 1859 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Never married. Was insane from young manhood.

i. Clarasa CLAYTON, born 27 Nov 1820 in McLain, Perry Co., Mississippi. She married James SYKES, died in Texas. Moved to Texas in 1849.
