Migration of Lewis RUMPH and Rachel AMAKER1. Lewis RUMPH, born 1793 in Orangeburgh, South Carolina; died 8 Aug 1862 in Macon County, Georgia, son of Jacob RUMPH (CPT) and Anne Mary HARRISPERGER. He married (1) Rachel AMAKER, born 1794 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina; died 1841 in Macon County, Georgia, daughter of [unknown] AMAKER; (2) Maria KAIGLER, born 28 Dec 1804 in Lexington County, South Carolina; died 29 Nov 1893 in Macon County, Georgia, daughter of George KAIGLER and Elizabeth GEIGER. Children of Lewis RUMPH and Rachel AMAKER were as follows: a. Caroline Elizabeth RUMPH, born abt. 1829 in South Carolina. She married George S. HASLAM. Children of Lewis RUMPH and Maria KAIGLER were as follows: b. Lewis A. RUMPH, born 1847 in Georgia. Originated the asparagus industry in the Macon Co., GA area. A grandson was Samuel H. Rumph originated the Elberta peach and was the first man in Georgia to own and operate a commercial orchard. He was the father of the peach industry in Georgia.
