Migration of Joseph CUTRER and Mary PENDARVIS


1. Joseph CUTRER, born 29 Sep 1772 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 1838 in Louisiana, son of Joseph COUTIER (JR). He married Mary PENDARVIS, born abt 1775 in Orangeburgh, South Carolina; died 1844 in Louisiana, daughter of Benjamin PENDARVIS and Sarah SALLEY.

Notes for Joseph CUTRER: In 1804 Joseph moved his family to St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana (the area that later became Washington Parish, LA). 1839 estate papers of one Joseph Cutrer in Washington Parish, LA contain a statement made in Copiah Co, MS by one John V Cutrer who states that the deceased Joseph Cutrer is his father, etc. The wife is listed as Mrs Mary Pendarvis (She mentions her minor child Newton A Cutrer) Heirs listed in the Joseph Cutrer papers are: (1) Hiram A Cutrer (2) Lewis B Cutrer (3) Isaac W Cutrer (4) Joseph Cutrer (5) Joel Ott husband of Mariah Cutrer, deceased (6) Elizabeth Cutrer, wife of Robert Rix (Ricks?) (7) Rebecca Cutrrer, wife of Jesse Tate (8) Mary (Nancy?) Cutrer, wife of William Snell Whole probate record is eight or nine pages.

Children of Joseph CUTRER and Mary PENDARVIS were as follows:

a. Mariah M. CUTRER, born abt 1796 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died bef 1838. She married on 11 Jul 1814 Joel OTT, born abt 1795 in South Carolina; died 1879 in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, son of Casper OTT (JR). Had nine children.

b. Nancy Ann CUTRER, born 1798 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 4 Nov 1875 in Washington Parish, Louisiana. She married William SNELL.

c. Lewis Benjamin CUTRER, born 7 Oct 1799 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 14 Oct 1879 in Washington Parish, Louisiana. He married (1) abt 1824 Nancy RICKS, born abt 1804; died abt 1846; (2) in 1850 in Washington, Louisiana Phoebe WESTMORELAND, born abt 1815 in Louisiana. d. John Vernon CUTRER, born 1801 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina.

e. Rachel CUTRER, born abt 1804; died bef 3 Dec 1838. She married Sherwood MELTON.

Notes for Sherwood MELTON: Sherrad and Rachel Cutrer Melton with 2 know children: Isaac Wesley Melton, b. Sept 20, 1826, St Helena Parish, LA., married Aug. 1, 1850 in Liberty Hill, Bienville Par. LA, Mariah Low, d. March 27, 1910, Brown CO., TX. Sherrad and Rachel also had 2 or 3 other children, a daughter Ollie, wife of John Ricks; perhaps Elizabeth, wife of Robert Hicks and perhaps others.

f. Joseph CUTRER, born 4 Jul 1806 in Louisiana. He married in 1825 in Pike County, Mississippi Rachel VARNEDOE, born 1812 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina, daughter of Samuel VARNEDOE (SR) and Nancy HERLONG.

Notes for Joseph CUTRER: Appointed postmaster Cutrersville post office, Washington Parish, Louisiana on 21 Feb 1833.

g. Elizabeth CUTRER, born abt 1808. She married abt 1835 Robert RICKS, born abt 1807.

h. Rebecca CUTRER, born abt 1809. She married (1) Jesse TATE; (2) Benjamin RICKS.

i. Isaac Wesley CUTRER, born 12 Dec 1815; died 1888 in Louisiana. He married Jane E. BALLARD.

j. Hiram Addison CUTRER, born 1818. He married on 24 Jan 1839 Clarinda AMACKER, born 1807 in Orangeburgh, South Carolina, daughter of John Jacob AMACKER and Sarah VARNEDOE.

k. Newton Adrian CUTRER, born abt 1821; died 1865 in Louisiana. He married (1) Isabell VERNON; (2) Joanna MORRIS.
